Thumbprints

The minute we are born our fingers are rolled in ink.

In a moment our uniqueness is filed and recorded…vault locked.

This uniqueness was not meant to be stored in a database.

Through you, God has art, song, and understanding He wants communicated to the world.

It appears that our thumbprints hold the color, music, and font to transfer these messages.

Daily re-roll your fingers in ink then reach out and touch somebody, something, some place, or some idea.

We follow those with stained fingers.

Music to my ears.

“…._______ is music to my ears.”

The most important part in the previous sentence is the “blank“________. The goal of every leader, husband, and dad is to determine what that “blank” is and provide a means to fill it. Fill in the blank and music enters the recipient’s ears.

The first commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” God asks for the blank to be filled with us loving with heart, soul, mind, and strength – THAT is music to His ears.

This leads to an interesting take on the second commandment, The Golden Rule. When you love your neighbor as yourself, you leave your shoes, enter your neighbors shoes, and ask “would that, fill in the blank, be music these shoes would dance to?”

A husband that loves his wife like he loves himself, a dad that loves his daughter like he loves himself, and a leader that loves his customer like he loves himself composes music that his wife, daughter, and client have no choice but to moonwalk to.

The scriptures claim “There is no commandment greater than these.” Focus on these two commandments and the music will play.

He who fills in the blank is bestowed the title of maestro – and any business, parenting, and relationship plan that follows this blueprint wins.

Creativity = Buzz

It’s more about doing what you think, not doing what you’re told.
It’s more about exposing what your mind has seen, not repeating what your eyes have seen or ears have heard.

True creativity creates “have you heard about???” vs. “been there done that”.
Music, art, and business that lead with creativity always own the market buzz.

So give the eyes and ears of the world something to hear and look at that your mind created – the Muse has flashed it there for that reason.

Tempo.

Tempo may be the most overlooked key to a life that makes music.

Run, pause, sprint, walk, skip, stroll, rest, and jump are all tempos. The degree to which you bend towards one of these more than all of the others will effect your music.

To run a marathon (which we all are) it takes all of these tempos to get to 26.2 miles. Temper your running with resting…the music plays and you win.

All Saints Day

Yesterday was a beautiful day for me.

I was able to attend a church service in Waco, TX where one of my best friends, Brady Herbert, is a pastor.

At the end of the service he offered a response time for All Saints Day. And being that it had never been explained to me before I didn’t know what to expect.

Brady explained that this was a day where we remembered those that came before us and bestowed to us the faith that we know and pursue.

In remembrance of these people we were asked to come to the front and place a flower in a vase…one for each person you wanted to remember.
The meaning of the flower was two-fold:
1) Our lives our unique, specific, and promote beauty – they are as detailed as the pedals of a rose.
2) This life is fleeting. Don’t waste it. Bloom and then share yourself with the world.
It seems that a successful life, one where the music plays, results in a vase full of flowers.
Share your ideas, hopes, knowledge, and dreams with people – leave them better than you found them. They want to know the message you’ve been sent to give.
It will now be hard for me to ever look at flowers the same.
