Projectors

“Our eyes are not viewers. They’re also projectors that are running a second story over the picture that we see in front of us all of the time.” Jim Carrey

The second story that we tell ourselves in the moment is where we invite frustration, suffering, and misunderstanding.

So how can we attempt to prevent the second story from closed captioning our eyes, our minds, and our hearts?

First, let’s begin with what you want.

Do you want to fight a battle?

or

Do you want to befriend beauty?

Your answer here frames the plot for every moment of your existence.

Think about it.

If your story always starts with “in the beginning I wanted a war” then it’s highly likely that your story will end with “and there was a winner and a loser.”

But if your story begins with “in the beginning there was something beautiful at play” then you’re probably going to somehow end up with “and something beautiful transpired.”

In our home we have what we call bedrock beliefs. These beliefs help us navigate such questions. We believe that life is happening for us. We also believe that love has our back. And we believe that a posture of wonder and awe is infinitely more enjoyable than the constant pursuit of games that end with win, lose, or draw.

We attempt to make these beliefs the rhythm of our hearts so that when the moment in the day arrives where we might start projecting a second story over the moment we can reclaim our eyes and actually usher into existence what is trying to transform us.

If you want a war, you’ll ask, seek, and knock for a war.

And if you want beauty, you’ll do the same.

We need more beauty askers, seekers, and knockers.

I think that’s the only way we’ll find it.

Values…

Do you value connection or correction?

What’s worth more to you? Peace or power?

Do you focus on having, doing, or being?

Our values shape everything we experience and the things and ideals we value is where our hearts will also be.

Interesting isn’t it????? Our hearts will beat to whatever is the playlist of our eyes.

Naming it.

Once you can name it one of two things will happen:

  1. If it is negative and something that is not serving you, it will loosen its grip on you.
  2. If it is serving you for greater connection and wholeness, you will gain greater momentum towards it.

May the metaphors be with you.

Availability

Wholeness,

flow,

love,

inspiration,

unity,

beauty,

wonder,

awe,

and connection is always available.

Are you available to such things?

Undortunarley, the same can be said for the opposing energy of everthing mentioned above.

We don’t see how things are.

We see things how we are.

Illusion and Reality.

It’s hard to know the difference between illusion and reality in the moment.

The email, the text, the look, the silence, the noise, and the emotion all become personal narrative based on our kaleidoscope of previous narratives that we have lived, experienced, or told ourselves.

Only when we can accept the moment for what it is will we be able to know the moment for what it is.

And to know a moment is to know its possibility.

This is nothing new, right? “Be still, and know….”.

It’s true.

Our stillness is the great predecessor to our knowing.

Developing this sixth sense for knowing the moment is the muscle memory of those that graciously lead us into both our present moments and our tomorrows that are pregnant with beauty.

We can’t midwife beauty for the world until we learn to penetrate illusion and touch reality.

Once you touch it you can know it.

Once you know it you can show it.

And by showing it you’ll be sharing it.
