Category Archives: Let The Music Play

When you find your people…

…you’ll find out you’re not alone.

…you’ll find those asking the same questions you’ve been asking yourself.

….you’ll find a safe place of rest that is pillowed in vulnerability.

But don’t let it just end with an ‘us’ or a ‘we’. If it’s true, noble, pure, lovely, excellent, and right…open this circle that you now call ‘we’.

The greatest movements have always started with a ‘we’ crossing paths with a ‘them’, and moving forward in cadence as a ‘we’.

Open up your doors and windows and let the music play.

LTMP Episode: Who You Are > Who You Aren’t

Episode 9: Who You Are > Who You Aren’t

Download in iTunes by clicking here or click the link below.

This is really quick and a bit scattered podcast, but I had to cut it while it was fresh. The quote that got it all started from a sermon I listened to late last night from Darren Rouanzoin the lead pastor at The Garden Church in Long Beach, CA. In his message, You Are An Artist, he said – “Who you aren’t isn’t interesting.” That’s a word that is going to be in my pocket for a while. Enjoy. And Godspeed in your music making.

Show Notes:

Sermon: You Are An Artist – Darren Rouanzoin

Song Lyrics: Melody, Trees, Whimsy, Breeze by Ashton Gustafson

I rode this horse like I rode my life.

I rowed this boat like I’ve rowed my time.

I think I’m getting close.

I think I’m almost there.

I reach to the sky like a flower does

Get me a little sun, get me a little love

I think I’m getting close.

I think I’m almost there.

Hold my hand, give this head a place to rest

I’m a broken man with a soul that wants to dance

It’s the melody in the trees the whimsy in the breeze….let me breathe.

Electric.

This place is quite electric if you’ll take notice.

And this electricity moves through all kinds of conductors that include: you, me, prayers, pens, tweets, help, hands, hugs, hopes, art, conversations, and so forth.

See it one place, see it everywhere.

Notice the power, participate in the possibility.

We > Me

This thought has sat heavy on me recently.

I thought on it as I walked into my office today.

We > Me.

I thought on this as I had a long drive this week with just my wife and I.

We > Me.

And as I created new inside jokes with my girls this weekend, I had a misty-eyed moment….

We > Me.

We all want to be part of something great that is becoming something greater.

Parker J. Palmer once wrote, “We are exploring together. We are cultivating a garden together, backs to the sun. The question is a hoe in our hands and we are digging beneath the hard and crusty surface to the rich humus of our lives.”

The best part of this thought isn’t the exploration, the cultivating, the questions, or even the rich humus.

It’s the we…..

Deep and Wide

Wide is quite easy to achieve today.

With the right amount of social creatine, your reach can be awfully wide, but it may feel like this.

And then there’s the significant relevance that goes deep.

The kind that involves time, the art of being human, and the hard – and not always rewarded – work of leadership. Also, known as relevance that lasts, touches, inspires, and is shared.

Wherever you and or your business is heading, in the end, it will be about the meaning in the marrow, the conscience of what is core, and in gathering the notes of what you value that they may center in harmony.

I’m I Did > I wish I had…..this is all about going deep over going wide.

Just ask the trees.
