Behind The Scenes

We can see and hear who has bloodied their fingers for years in the guitar solo scene.

We can see who practiced free throws in the 4th quarter scene.

We can see who connected, who prospected, and who studied the market in the closing the sale scene.

The solo perfected scene, the free throw made scene, and the closing the sale scene only can happen because of what has happened behind them.

The same goes for the missed solo, missed free throw, and the sale fail. These guys have predecessors too.

We all want to star the scene, but the limelight tends to find those who have courted their art for years in the dim light.

Clearly Defining Yourself

Have you clearly defined yourself?
Can you specifically say this is who I am, where I’m going, what I’m about, and why I’m here?
We rally behind those who can answer these questions about themselves.
It’s a ‘Ziglar’ move from a wandering generality to a meaningful specific when you are clearly defined.
Not to mention it makes difficult decisions and getting out of bed much easier.
Go and define yourself. I assure you we will respond in applause and rally behind your what and why.
So the question for today is, what does it mean to be you?

Today Matters

With the best record in the ’11-’12 NFL season, the 15-1 Packers were beat by the 9-7 Giants yesterday at Lambeau Field.

Surprised? You shouldn’t be.

Think of your products/services/ideas within the concepts taught in yesterday’s game…

  • So you have the best record thus far? So what?
  • So you’re the wild card? So what?
  • Yesterday’s trophies cant’ catch today’s passes.
  • Yesterday’s losses are not appropriate predictors of today’s outcome….neither are yesterday’s wins.
  • Guts win.
  • Home field advantage is meaningless when you don’t show up.

Our today’s do have a lot to do with our tomorrows, but our yesterday’s don’t have much say today. Frightening, but true.

Today, the whistle has blown and a new game has begun.

So what’s your record? 15-1? 9-7? All that is yesterday talk…meaningless today.

What’s important is today you are undefeated.

The old has gone and the new has come. This is the battle cry of Monday.

Godspeed.

The Vacuum Battle Royal

It probably should not be classified as battle, but I eavesdropped on three wives (one of which was mine) having a “who knows the best vacuum” debate this weekend.

It went like this…

Wife 2: “I really want a __________ (brand name) vacuum.”

Wife 1: “Oh, I was going to ask for that brand for Christmas, but was told by soooo many people not to.”

Wife 3: “Well, if my vacuum didn’t have a chord, I would vacuum everyday!”

Wife 1: “You should see my chord. Press a button, and the chord winds itself back into the vacuum.”

Wife 3: “No way.”

Wife 1: “Way.”

And for five more minutes they had their vacuum debate…

Welcome to our new business ecosystem.

The goal in this new ecosystem is to be the last brand standing or Best In Class for your product or service when three wives strike up their battle royal.

The three wives care more about each other’s opinions than any direct mailer, infomercial, tweet, or even a Super Bowl ad. Said another way, it’s all about the social boat we sail on, and we hate to rock the boat.

This should make us all question our marketing dollars.

Never once did they mention how well the vacuum sucked. That’s the reason for a vacuum debate, right? Not so much. Best In Class, here, was all about functionality, noise levels, and chord winder-uppers.

This proves the Simon Sinek belief when he says, “people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”

The Hibachi Secret

Anyone can learn to scramble and fry rice on a 3×6 steaming griddle.

Anyone can slice an onion, stack it into a volcano, and light the canola lava.

Anyone can become a master shrimp tail slapper.

Sure, the hibachi experience is quite entertaining, but we really sat down for the chef’s secret sauce.

Create and refine your sauce. Our mouths are watering.

Sayonara.
