Leadership Does…

There’s a great leadership scene in the movie Dead Poets Society where Robin Williams, (the teacher/leader), gets up on his classroom desk and says, “I stand upon my desk to remind myself that we must constantly look at things in a different way.”

Leadership takes its followers on a journey.

Leadership does not allow its followers thoughts and actions to remain idle.

Leadership doesn’t just like change – leadership creates and paves the way for change.

Leadership longs for its followers to experience discovery.

Leadership gets its fix on getting its followers from point a to point z.

Leadership provides the paint and canvas.

Leadership gives away the musical instruments, provides the music lessons, and then goes and find a stage for the follower to perform.

True leadership has its full focus on the followers and the movement they can co-create together.

Further and Further

Now, more than ever, success is going to require that you get further and further from the pack,

further and further out of the box,

further and further from standard operating procedures,

and further and further from limited thinkers and dreamers.

The rat race is noisiest and most crowded place on earth. The problem is you don’t notice the noise or the mass competition of the race when you’re there. The rat race will convince you that “this is just how things are.”

Did Usain Bolt race this past week or just do his thing?

Was Apple ever in a race to creat the first cell phone?

Wherever you’re looking to go or whatever music you’re trying to create think the opposite of rat race.

From here on out, it will only be the outliers that move further and further from all things normal and average that will succeed on massive levels.

Same Old, Same Old

Keep running the same play and see if that wins the game for you.

Keep making the same calls and see where that gets you.

Keep thinking the same thoughts and see where that takes you.

Keep watching those same reruns and report back.

Keep saying we’re in the same recession we were in 4  years ago.

Keep ordering the same super-sized fries.

Keep doing what you’ve been doing and you’ll get to keep getting what you’ve been getting. I think you want more than that.

If I have any regret at this point in my life, it’s that I haven’t taken more and greater action towards bigger and greater dreams.

Try this mantra on: How different today can I think, act, and speak in order to create the tomorrow I’ve always envisioned?

Changed World > Same Old, Same Old

Farming

1). Sow.

2). Grow.

3). Harvest.

The Muse does not allow the process in any other way.

1 – Is all on us.

2 – Is all on the Muse.

3 – Is a byproduct of the Muse rewarding your time spent at #1.

The best harvesters I know are obsessive sowers.

Action vs. Talking

You must take yourself and your instruments to the marketplace for the music to begin.

Neither music nor success can abracadabra its way into our lives.

It’s up to us and our actions – not our words or magic wands.
