Out there and in here…

When you decide how you will be, you will then have chosen how you will see.

The heart that beats to love, joy and peace finds itself powering the feet and hands of connection, care, and trust.

If all you’re seeing is a war with your eyes, it’s likely that there’s one happening in your chest.

Who knew that when you have nothing to attack on the outside chances are there’s nothing for you to defend on the inside? And that, my friends, is called freedom.

Your Fruit > Your Weapons.

One time.

It rarely takes more than one attempt at something you fear to find out it’s not so bad after all.

Watch a child jump off a diving board for the first time and you’ll see this transpire. It takes a while for them to make the first jump. But after the first splash, the rest is history.

One jump.

Never the same.

LTMP Episode: Who You Are > Who You Aren’t

Episode 9: Who You Are > Who You Aren’t

Download in iTunes by clicking here or click the link below.

This is really quick and a bit scattered podcast, but I had to cut it while it was fresh. The quote that got it all started from a sermon I listened to late last night from Darren Rouanzoin the lead pastor at The Garden Church in Long Beach, CA. In his message, You Are An Artist, he said – “Who you aren’t isn’t interesting.” That’s a word that is going to be in my pocket for a while. Enjoy. And Godspeed in your music making.

Sermon: You Are An Artist – Darren Rouanzoin

Song Lyrics: Melody, Trees, Whimsy, Breeze by Ashton Gustafson

I rode this horse like I rode my life.

I rowed this boat like I’ve rowed my time.

I think I’m getting close.

I think I’m almost there.

I reach to the sky like a flower does

Get me a little sun, get me a little love

I think I’m getting close.

I think I’m almost there.

Hold my hand, give this head a place to rest

I’m a broken man with a soul that wants to dance

It’s the melody in the trees the whimsy in the breeze….let me breathe.

We > Me

This thought has sat heavy on me recently.

I thought on it as I walked into my office today.

We > Me.

I thought on this as I had a long drive this week with just my wife and I.

We > Me.

And as I created new inside jokes with my girls this weekend, I had a misty-eyed moment….

We > Me.

We all want to be part of something great that is becoming something greater.

Parker J. Palmer once wrote, “We are exploring together. We are cultivating a garden together, backs to the sun. The question is a hoe in our hands and we are digging beneath the hard and crusty surface to the rich humus of our lives.”

The best part of this thought isn’t the exploration, the cultivating, the questions, or even the rich humus.

It’s the we…..
