The Youniversity of Why

You and why.

To define one is to define them both.

Show me a man or woman with a ‘why’ and I’ll show you someone who isn’t wondering what, when, where, or how to do their some-thing.

Your something is your why.

Your why is the theme of your life. Your why is your constant living and breathing verb. Your why is your metaphor – your meaning, purpose, and fulfillment that sails just below the surface. Your why isn’t who you think you are or who you think we think you are – it is simply…who…you…are…meant…to be…and become.

Which leads us back to you.

So why you? In short, only you can fulfill such a unique, stand-alone, and divine cause.

And herein lies the holiest of all pursuits: that we would become what we are meant to be.

What The Sunrise Said

What happens when the arts, a poetic experience, and the metaphor of music become the backbone of our lives, our families, and our economy?

I think only the future holds this answer, but it’s our role to move into the question and become the answer as the future unfolds.

You have a canvas. This canvas we speak of is your life. If you can, splash it with colors of joy, bravery, and whimsy…shadow it with purpose, meaning, and fullfilment…frame it with hope.

You have a stage. This stage is your business or your place to make change. And on that stage you probably have a phone that is a radio, that is a media company, that is the pony express, and that is your microphone and gateway to the world.

You have some sort of family…be it through blood or relationship. It’s your job to provide its theme.

This place is becoming less and less about science and arithmetic and more and more about the arts, music, and poetry.

This is what the sunrise has been trying to get us to hear.

The Point

“But tomorrow and plans for tomorrow can have no significance at all unless you are in full contact with the reality of the present, since it is in the present and only in the present that you live. There is no other reality than the present reality, so that, even if one were to live for endless ages, to live for the future would be to miss the point everlastingly.” Alan W. Watts

This moment is the point.

This hour holds the point.

And the next hour will hold its own point.

Moment to moment, connection to connection, conversation to conversation, hand to hand, and soul to soul….to be IN and to be ONE with our moments is the point.

All of your experiences thus far point directly to this reality:  You were meant and created to make your music right now.

There’s a billion points the world will convince to bet the farm on, but there’s truly only one to go all in on: your music.

Let it play.

The easier the path…

…the greater the chances are of it leading to a dead end.

The reason we gawk at mountains is due in part to us being able to feel and hear their plea for us to climb them.

Rocky? Yes.

Windy? Yes.

Worth it? Most definitely.

Knowing What To Avoid…

Talking is more about listening than it is talking. If you listen well don’t be surprised when people want to talk to you more often.

Selling is more about serving than it is selling. Serve well and don’t be surprised if someone buys something from you.

The music you are here to make is more about noise recognition than it is instrument selection.

I believe you already have everything that you need, know what do to, and know how to do it.

It’s knowing what to avoid that moves us from noise makers to musicians.
