Gently Down The Stream

The older you get, the more and more fishing trips become less and less about catching fish.

Norman Maclean wrote in A River Runs Through It, “One of life’s quiet excitements is to stand somewhat apart from yourself and watch yourself softly becoming the author of something beautiful…”

I had the opportunity to float twelve miles of the North Platte River today. I entered the stream with the quote above and wrestled with it for all twelve miles.

Life is but a dream.

Author something beautiful with it.

Where Contribution Meets Destiny…

…is where the music happens.

In other words, it’s your gift to the world and the fulfillment of your purposes here on Earth.

Happy happy.

Joy joy.

You’ve got to throw the boomerang for it to come back.

Few yes’s and many no’s

It’s been said that every yes we commit to is coupled with 99 no’s. I believe this is true and then some.

When you say yes to this moment, today, you actively participate in writing what will eventually be the past and you will also be writing the preamble of your tomorrow’s. How beautiful is it to grasp just how connected right now is to our past and our future?

I’ve yet to hear a eulogy quote a tweet, recollect time spent in one’s inbox, or hold high an Angry Birds IQ.

I’m glad I did…. > I wish I had….

A Poem: Where to?

Hands resting. Waiting. Wondering where they’re best used.

Eyes opened. Ready. Eager to see something typically unseen.

Ears on. Available. Here to hear.

Feet set. Prepared. Open for sprint, walk, or waltz. Just wanting to move in, with, and towards the music.

Mouth muted. Full of questions.

So?

Where to?

Weirdo.

After another negative news story in the background this evening, I turned the television off.

Off. Not muted or paused. Off.

Jazz has always felt appropriate as the moon swaps places with the sun, so I went with Miles Davis and shifted the mood. Eventually, the playlist led to a track called ‘Weirdo’. Something changed in that moment. The air became cleaner. Creativity fluttered. The food even tasted better.

Thank you clarity. Thank you Miles. And sweet Muse, please keep leading us away from our unnecessary and often blinding routines.
