Today, we had a first at LTMP Podcast…I had the honor and privilege to have and share a conversation with Evan Rosell, Pastor of Ministry Leadership at Redeemer Fellowship in Kansas City, MO.

A few weeks ago, Evan and I had one of our sporadic phone calls. After about an hour of riffing back and forth on new ideas, concepts, books, and journeys, I asked if he would be up for recording a call and sharing it on the podcast. He agreed and I think you’ll enjoy it!

More love,

Ashton

PS – If you haven’t watched Chef’s Table on Netflix, you are missing out. It is crazy-beautiful, wonderfully inspiring and I’m watching it tonight.

Mysteries

The moment you stop wondering is precisely when you’ll start wandering.

Follow the glow.

Follow the music.

There you’ll have just enough to light to see and just enough rhythm to dance.

The Groove In Congruence.

With all things we seek to make music with and in there’s a groove.

Music, at its core, is all about congruence.

Relationships groove in the Golden Rule.

Business (and branding) grooves in kept promises.

Parenting grooves in presence.

And then there’s our lives…and the groove is found here when the eyes of the heart make their way into the world through the paths of our hands and feet. Simply put, when the exterior mirrors the interior, this is to have found congruence with our lives.

The work and the reward is in the groove leading us to congruence.

When you find your people…

…you’ll find out you’re not alone.

…you’ll find those asking the same questions you’ve been asking yourself.

….you’ll find a safe place of rest that is pillowed in vulnerability.

But don’t let it just end with an ‘us’ or a ‘we’. If it’s true, noble, pure, lovely, excellent, and right…open this circle that you now call ‘we’.

The greatest movements have always started with a ‘we’ crossing paths with a ‘them’, and moving forward in cadence as a ‘we’.

Open up your doors and windows and let the music play.

LTMP Episode: Who You Are > Who You Aren’t

Episode 9: Who You Are > Who You Aren’t

Download in iTunes by clicking here or click the link below.

This is really quick and a bit scattered podcast, but I had to cut it while it was fresh. The quote that got it all started from a sermon I listened to late last night from Darren Rouanzoin the lead pastor at The Garden Church in Long Beach, CA. In his message, You Are An Artist, he said – “Who you aren’t isn’t interesting.” That’s a word that is going to be in my pocket for a while. Enjoy. And Godspeed in your music making.

Show Notes:

Sermon: You Are An Artist – Darren Rouanzoin

Song Lyrics: Melody, Trees, Whimsy, Breeze by Ashton Gustafson

I rode this horse like I rode my life.

I rowed this boat like I’ve rowed my time.

I think I’m getting close.

I think I’m almost there.

I reach to the sky like a flower does

Get me a little sun, get me a little love

I think I’m getting close.

I think I’m almost there.

Hold my hand, give this head a place to rest

I’m a broken man with a soul that wants to dance

It’s the melody in the trees the whimsy in the breeze….let me breathe.
