Have you ever asked yourself?

“How many of my work days would I want to DVR?”

“Why am I here?”

“What’s my music?”

“What do I hear when I look at the clouds?”

“What do I see when I look out on the ocean?”

“What creates the space for you to pursue your passions and find inspiration?”

I was asked these questions yesterday by a mentor of mine…and the clarity on the other side of these questions was earth-shattering.

R.W. Emerson once said, “The world makes way for the man who knows where he is going.”

Before 12/31/12 ask these questions, pause, and stretch for these answers. Rest assured 2013 will welcome with you with a smile and open arms.

Top 10 Books I’ve Read This Year

In no specific order:

Entreleadership – Dave Ramsey

– This is the gold standard of running a business.  I keep a copy in the top drawer of my desk.

Love Does – Bob Goff

– Whimsy whispers and we must respond. When we do…Love does His/her thing.

Art and Fear – David Bayles and Ted Orland

– When fear leaves art happens.

Think and Grow Rich – Napoleon Hill

– I was told by everyone to read this. I still listen to it in my car weekly. It’s not about money either…its about designing what you call a rich life.

Turning Pro – Steven Pressfield

– A great question for any moment. “Are you acting like a pro or an amateur?”

Necessary Endings – Dr. Henry Cloud

– I found out ending is a chance to begin.

Simple Numbers – Greg Crabtree and Beverly Blair Harzog

– This book redefined the basics of profit, margin, and expenses for me.

The 4-Hour Work Week – Timothy Ferris

– You don’t want to put this down and you’ll want to dream even bigger than what you’re dreaming now.

Blue Ocean Strategy – W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne

– Dominate – don’t compete.

Delivering Happiness – Tony Hsieh

– I now have a note behind my desk that says “Out zappos Zappos.”

Does Your Music Have a “Why’?

The great pianist Edvard Grieg once remarked on the purpose behind the creative energies of his music saying, “it is to build dwellings for men in which they might feel at home and happy.”

You can keep your cards close to your chest and even hide your thoughts from us, but your music or your noise will always expose your “why”.

This is the question that should find its way to the front of every Monday: “Where’s my ‘why’?”

Three Sleepless Nights

This one has kept me tossing and turning the last three nights.

“If everything you do needs to work on a three-year time horizon, then you’re competing against a lot of people.” But if you’re willing to invest on a seven-year time horizon, you’re now competing against a fraction of those people, because very few companies are willing to do that.” Jeff Bezos

Thanks Jeff…I needed this.
