A speedy rant.

We don’t soak up life enough.

We don’t want our dreams bad enough.

We blame others too much.

We are successful where we are calloused.

We don’t look at the stars enough.

Remember your first day on the job. Where’d the joy and passion go?

There were things left unfinished yesterday. Unacceptable.

Now is the most important minute of the day. (It’s always now)

We should challenge the status quo more often.

Your plan got you here.

We forget to pray. Not in the cliché sense – I’m talking truly connecting with Infinite Intelligence.

Art. Career. Family. Purpose. = Life = Joy. Hope. Passion. Etc. = What we’re really after.

Fly fishing should be required to be taught in all public schools.

We need your music. The noise is getting out of control.

Music’s antonym is accident.

We are all Olympians in something.

We’ve got one shot at this thing.

Let the music play. No, today – make it play.

Today is July 27, 2012.

Your successes and your failures today are all a byproduct of action in your previous days.

Success is your responsibility.

Happenstance is a lie.

Luck is only a reality to those that are fluent in laziness.

You didn’t get here by chance.

You did this.

Own it.

Tomorrow’s success is contingent on today’s action.

Towel Throwing

You started and then what happened?

It got harder than you expected.

It looked different from the inside looking out than the outside looking in.

The other guy got a head start.

You drilled a dry hole.

You found out that skill development was greater than your natural gifting(s). That frustrated you.

You fouled out.

Someone said no.

You got hung up on.

Dealer was showing ace. You had a pair of 8’s.

You pulled a hammy.

You got writers block.

You needed sleep.

You had to work on the weekends.

And so forth…

I would estimate that 9 out of 10 people throw the towel in on 9 out of 10 things they start to do or try to create.

Why?

Simple answer – it’s easier to quit.

It’s easier to claim the dream wasn’t real.

Everyone loves the talk of getting married.

Where’s the discussion on being married?

Look at those who you call a hero and companies/churches you consider to be heroic.

Chances are they’re holding on to most of the towels that had the chance to be thrown in at some point in time.

Your Human Hardware

Hands:

Great for introducing yourself to others and making things out of other things. Service is their functionality.

Eyes:

Great for seeing – but seeing what no one else does in the moment, in the art, or in the chaos. Blessed is he whose eyes give him vision.

Mind:

Unfathomable processing speeds and comes preloaded with the latest creative software. All studies show this is one’s greatest gift.

Heart:

Created to be put into and/or given to some thing, cause, passion or idea. Guard it above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Prov 4:23

What Does Small Have to do with Growth?

Go to Barnes and Noble and walk by any self-help or business section. I don’t know the figures, but getting you and I to grow (spiritually, physically, financially, etc,) has to be a billion dollar industry.

But why is there no growth? Why is the economy stalled? Why are we the same December 31 as we were January 1. Why do we set out to make music, but end up with noise?

The answer is quite simple: we don’t like small.

We prefer play over practice.

But it’s the small steps of action that lead to big results.

The driving range is the quickest route to a PGA Tour card. 50 calls will lead to the sale. Start with a 1/4 mile and soon you’ll be at a marathon.

We avoid the small, typically, because it’s not noticed.

Do the small day after day after day after day after day and you won’t be forgotten.

Your growth is contingent on your dreaming bigger and acting smaller.
