Mountains, Galaxies, & Oceans AKA Life, Family, & Business

The reason we gawk at mountains, get lost in the stars, and are taken away by the crashing of ocean waves is because they read us…they reflect something that is true deep in our core…they encourage us to come and climb, to shine, and to sail.

The richness that I’ve been able to claim in this world is the divine allurement of life, family, and business. They’re my mountains, galaxies, and oceans.

They carry a tone of exploration. They have a theme of discovery. They are a bouquet of beauty.

What do you feel on the inside looking while looking at the outside of mountains?

What do you hear in the cosmos?

Where are you taken as the waves slam your skin?

Now ask these same questions looking at your life, family, and business.

Climb.

Shine.

Sail.

Breathe.

Repeat.

What’s At The End of Your Fork?

Or maybe the more appropriate question is, what are your craving to be at the end of your fork?

Most times we give into the cravings. Because no matter the diet, we crave the foods of that diet. A bad diet craves bad foods. A good diet craves good foods.

Back to your fork.

What’s at the end of it?

Hope?

Gossip?

Purpose?

Pity?

One thing our culture can never seem get full on is stories. Great stories. Stories with well nourished characters.

So when you live a great story, in a way, those around you are well nourished – i.e. – inspired and encouraged to be alive in their own story.

Or put another way, when you nourish yourself, you give light and direction towards what will nourish others into their own great stories. Life, at its core, is a constant conversation about our metaphorical diets.

Alas, your story isn’t your fork’s fault.

Rule # 1 Of Your Music: Insist On Yourself

I believe you are a musician.

I believe there is song after song after song waiting to be awakened in you.

I believe there’s far too many people telling you what to believe your music should be.

I believe your music is your call.

I believe finding your music is your true and holy vocation.

I believe the vocation of finding your music will help move others into the same pursuit, resulting in a world of less noise and more music.

I believe your music is why you are here.

I believe we will all be better after having been exposed to your riffs, rhythm, and rhyme.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, “Insist on yourself; never imitate. Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life’s cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another, you have only an extemporaneous, half possession.”

A successful life is one that says ‘here’s my music.’

Emphasis on my (which is yours).

You need not borrow that which is already in you.

What Is Priceless?

Whatever your answer is, therein lies what must be the pursuit of your days, life, family, and business.

I’ve chosen three priceless pursuits…experience, meaning, and fulfillment.

Which then leads to another question: What’s the cost in not pursuing such things?

I’m afraid none of us have deep enough pockets to answer that question.
