What is mine to do?

Bad questions tend to give us bad answers.

When we wonder what we are supposed to be doing with our life, we almost always miss the electricity in the inch of dirt we are occupying.

Is there an interesting book spine on a shelf waiting for your grasp? Leave your phone and social polishing and sit with the words of this book for a while.

Is there an interesting conversation that needs to begin? Hit send, hit call.

Life tends to become interesting the more we become interested in it.

Once interested, begin doing something you enjoy with this interest only for the purposes of enjoying it.

And then do it again.

And then do it again.

And then take notes.

And then do it again.

And then do it for someone.

And then do it for a group.

Until you learn lead to yourself we’ll be waiting for you to lead us.

And it’s your curiosity that’s waiting to lead you….

Humanity…

…is tuning up…

…and it’s tuning into the key of ‘see’.

This a wonderful waltz towards transfiguration as we, as a body, start to embody being a body.

The media and your lizard brain will convince you that it’s moving towards something that is unraveling and that the arc is bending towards chaos. And you will continue to see it that way if that’s what you want to see.

But if we truly want to understand this and see with the eyes of possibility, we’re going to need to invoke our imagination.

Think of what we have in common..hope, heart, blood, beauty, sorrow, and soul. And the list stretches endlessly longer than what is different about us.

Won’t you be my neighbor?

The map, the model, the mystery, & (somehow) the meaning of it all.

What if the roadmap of relationships was marked by signposts for love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control? Would you enjoy your travels? Would those you’ve been entrusted with enjoy the journeys you’ve invited them on?

What if the business model was love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control? Would you enjoy that? Would the customer enjoy that? Would that be something worth remarking on or sharing?

What if the tools of life are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control? Would there be a sustainable rhythm to your days? Would being connected trump being correct?

You realize this is available, right?

Little things helping me these days…

  1. Smiling while driving. This simple practice pulls me immediately out of dualistic thinking and into wonder and awe of the world around me. If I can do this in the most average city in America, you can too! Give it a whirl.
  2. Hand over my heart while speaking. The thoughts of the mind can feel like the pinballs in the noisy chaos of a pinball machine at times. Anytime I place my hand over my heart I’m reminded of the steady, always constant, and universal good that is moving through my veins and ushering in the moment…without my doing by the way. This is the place I want to live from and speak from.
  3. “If I knew the backstory.” This subtle statement has immediately changed my posture in conversations, conflict, and relationships. Deepak Chopra has been quoted before saying, “It helps to remember that people are doing the best that they can from their own level of consciousness.” I’m confident that this is true and can help us all if we can be present enough to recall, recollect, and remember such wisdom. “If I knew the backstory” points my compass due north towards a place of compassion.
  4. Take a toleration tally. Last week I blogged about this and I’ve found it quite liberating. What needs to go?
  5. Read…and share. Everyone wins when you do this. You get to repeat the beautiful insight you’ve been given and the receiver of this information gets the potential to be outfitted with a pair of renewed eyes.

Sending grace and peace your way today.

Ashton
