Little things helping me these days…

  1. Smiling while driving. This simple practice pulls me immediately out of dualistic thinking and into wonder and awe of the world around me. If I can do this in the most average city in America, you can too! Give it a whirl.
  2. Hand over my heart while speaking. The thoughts of the mind can feel like the pinballs in the noisy chaos of a pinball machine at times. Anytime I place my hand over my heart I’m reminded of the steady, always constant, and universal good that is moving through my veins and ushering in the moment…without my doing by the way. This is the place I want to live from and speak from.
  3. “If I knew the backstory.” This subtle statement has immediately changed my posture in conversations, conflict, and relationships. Deepak Chopra has been quoted before saying, “It helps to remember that people are doing the best that they can from their own level of consciousness.” I’m confident that this is true and can help us all if we can be present enough to recall, recollect, and remember such wisdom. “If I knew the backstory” points my compass due north towards a place of compassion.
  4. Take a toleration tally. Last week I blogged about this and I’ve found it quite liberating. What needs to go?
  5. Read…and share. Everyone wins when you do this. You get to repeat the beautiful insight you’ve been given and the receiver of this information gets the potential to be outfitted with a pair of renewed eyes.

Sending grace and peace your way today.

How to tune a heart.

The heart tunes when we begin letting go to what isn’t and start clinging to what actually is.

Fear isn’t much more than an accuser and a thief. Hence the constant trial and robbery we feel when we can’t let go. All the while, Love is the fuel and the engine, the river and the ocean, and the song and the dance of reality’s gorgeous storyline. Hence the cosmic connnection to all things when we’re dialed into and clinging to this Love.

The heart tunes with a surrender to the moment…

…and when the ego lays down…

…and when joy is the thread we choose to weave the blankets of our lives with.

Tune the heart.

Warm the soul.

Sing thy grace.

The Heart

Resolutions.

These things we long to do in the next 365 days. Goals, dreams, and a myriad of won’t-dos and to-dos that are as unique as each one is an individual.

And these are good. We set them. We reach them. We progress.

However, they aren’t us and they aren’t you. As hard as we try to hang a hat on them, the hat just won’t hang (or not like we thought it would).

We aren’t trophies, spreadsheets, calories, or accolades.

We are hearts with hands, feet, eyes, tongues, and ideas.

The great David Crowder gave us a beautiful word picture of the heart, its nest, and the force that powers it. He wrote, “What was said to the rose to make it unfold was said to me here in my chest.” To this day, those words take my breath away.

So rather than give 2015 a number, a net worth, or a behavior modification, what if we gave this year the chance to nourish and bloom that thing in our chest?

When something blooms it has arrived at its most beautiful moment. All the soil tilling and stem growth has led to that moment. In that moment a fragrance is offered, its form marveled, and just the simplicity of this bloom on display can change the vibe and feel of a room.

Perhaps when we are in bloom there’s a fragrant offering to the world, beauty released, and a vibe that changes people, moments, and the universe itself?

The heart…guard it. It’s been called the wellspring of life. We must also garden it so it will be given the opportunity bloom and re-bloom again and again.

Happy New Year.

Let the music play and let the flower bloom.
