Lean Into It

The games of cynicism, pessimism, guilt, and shame are some of the most popular games we are sold. And for those who choose to play them, they’re the only game in town. Finger pointing is the only cost to play. And who can’t afford that?

But they don’t have to be your games.

Actually, you can leave the world of games altogether and enter into the beautiful realm of experience.

And this experience will give you the opportunity to risk being seen.

The risk is being seen as your True Name. The Name you came here with and the Name you’ll leave with.

Love.

Now you will always have new windows to look into and out of, a variety of lenses to observe with, and a kaleidoscope of meaning to breathe the world in and out with.

Lean into love.

Scoop it up with all of your being.

Swim with it.

Soak it in.

And then offer it back as gift.

Only in this risk will you step into what you were originally whispered to be.

What is beautiful?

That’s really the only question you need to answer and continue answering.

Answer that, and your cup will overflow, your sleep will be serene, and your life will be a gift you receive and a gift you get to give.

Nothing suffocates cynicism and pessimism like the constant pursuit of beauty.

Sifting

Glennon Doyle Melton writes in her new book that is set to release September 6th that when crisis arrives in life, we are invited to sift through the details of our story that is being written and eventually we are left with only that which truly matters.

We actually get the word crisis from the latin word cribum which means to sift or to separate.

My journey through this soul sifting started four years ago to the day.

There’s a lot that sifted out, but it is with brutal joy that I can share what I was left holding after the sift.

Faces.

An appetite for stillness.

Rediscovery of my true self.

Wonder & Awe.

A radar, thermometer, and tuning fork for the soul.

&

A quest for beauty.

A crisis isn’t necessary for all of us, but two consistent questions most definitely are.

What needs to stay?

&

What needs to go?

Stories, Choices, and Values.

With each new moment we walk into a story begins. It’s a story about a choice and it’s a story about choosing to interact with the ideals that we hold high and value.

Prayer is a story about a choice and something you value.

So is stillness.

So is action.

And so is an unnecessary reaction. That’s a story about a choice and a value too.

What if the fives senses were to become things we valued instead of forgotten gifts we unknowingly experienced?

For instance, what if we valued feeling the love, seeing the beauty, smelling the proverbial roses, tasting the moment, and touching the heart?

Most likely our choices would change first and then so would our stories.
